Miami-dade has become a leader in the world of data analytics, thanks to data scientists like David and Laura Johnson.
They’re the founders of the company, Data Analytics, and they’re not happy.
“We are not happy,” says Laura.
“I don’t know why.”
“We love Miami-Daytona Beach,” says David.
“The city is very exciting and it’s very hot, and we have a really nice beach and we love it, and the sun is great.
But they didn’t tell us that the data science team is going to get paid $300,000 a year.
I don’t think they were told that.”
Laura and David have built a startup company called Data Analytics with the intention of helping people better understand their data.
They hope to bring in hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue for Miami-daytona-beach businesses.
“I’m really passionate about doing what I love,” says a smiling Laura.
“It’s like a job that’s been given to me by my parents.
We’re really happy to be able to help people do what they love.”
Laura says the company has already made more than $50 million in revenue in its first year, but that has come at a steep cost.
“This year we have lost a lot of money,” she says.
“We have to take a $5 million loss in order to pay for a new house.
We are going to take some other investments, but we are also going to work hard to keep our doors open and keep growing the business.”
Laura is a data scientist, a software developer, and a data analyst, and she says they are the type of people that Miami-area companies want to hire.
“They’re really good at building websites, but they don’t have the software skills to do the backend stuff,” says Karen Hines, co-founder of Data Analytics.
“The software is really good, but the people who build the websites are not necessarily skilled, and you don’t necessarily have the business skills to build a website.”
Hines says they were able to land a $150,000 startup funding round from the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and is now seeking new funding.
Hines’ company is using its data-science skills to help businesses find the right candidates.
The company has used a combination of computer-science training, interviews, and online classes to help recruit data scientists for its jobs.
“Our company’s software, it’s a little different than any other software out there,” says Hines.
“And we are going out to our users and saying, ‘Hey, you need to be a data science expert, or you need a database expert, and I can help you find them,'” says Karen.
The jobs data nerd that hires Laura says that the company is helping people discover jobs in their local area.
“One of the most interesting things that we’ve seen, and one of the coolest things that’s happened to us is people have started asking, ‘Are there any jobs in my neighborhood?'” says David, who has worked at Data Analytics for almost four years.
“There are so many jobs that are open right now, and that they are interested in, but there’s a lot that is really difficult to find.
They want to find the jobs that they know.”
Hens says the biggest problem is getting people to get out there and apply for the jobs they want.
“What I’ve seen is, it takes a little bit of effort, but I think the company does a great job of connecting people with those jobs,” she said.
