A new survey by the British Technology Council shows that almost one in five British tech workers are struggling to make ends meet.

The BTC surveyed 843 UK tech workers and found that almost three quarters (72%) of the tech workers said they were struggling to find a job that paid at least £10.25 an hour.

This is up from 67% in January, and almost two thirds (64%) said they had experienced “a drop in their wages” since last summer.

The BTC also found that more than half (56%) of those surveyed said they’d experienced “loss of income” since summer, while a quarter (24%) said that they had “lost their home or had lost their job”.

These figures are the highest recorded by the BTC in two years, and raise concerns over the economic recovery.

In 2017, the BTS estimated that the UK had lost around 2.7 million jobs since the Brexit vote.

The latest figures show that over the past 12 months the number of jobs created has fallen by almost 8,000, with an average of 2,937 new jobs created per week.

Despite these challenges, the British tech industry is still growing, according to the BCT.

It predicts that the sector will generate £5.6 billion in new jobs by 2021.

“We’re at the start of the recovery, but the recovery is not yet here, and this survey tells us that more work needs to be done to turn the tide,” said Andrew Evans, director of the BTF’s UK region.

The report notes that over a third of those in the tech sector are men, and is one of the highest concentrations in the world of people earning over £100,000 a year.

The survey found that just over one in 10 (9%) of British tech employees said they felt “uncomfortable” working in a low-paid job.

Almost one in three (23%) said “I don’t feel safe working in the industry”, while 15% said they didn’t feel comfortable working at all.

The number of tech jobs is a major issue for those working in tech in the United Kingdom, with a large number of UK tech jobs being held by people who have already moved overseas.

“This is a very concerning trend, and one that we need to keep a close eye on,” said Evans.

“The BTS is now taking a number of measures to make sure that the technology industry is attracting talent from across the globe.”

The BTF also highlighted how the tech industry in the country is “struggling to find the balance between the needs of its users and the needs for a competitive advantage”.

It is also the only sector in the economy that has yet to report its full data set.

The new survey is the first in the BTA’s Digital Economy survey, which is the BTL’s first report to include data from UK tech companies since the tech survey was launched in April 2017.

The full BTL data set is available on the BTT website
